Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you develop the Stretch Gym?
The initial objectives were to construct a solid, stable structure for performing controlled oversplits, backbends, and straddles.  A secondary objective was to support resistive stretching exercises, such as supine leg extensions.  We discovered that with the Stretch Gym, resistive exercises can be performed by the stretcher, without the help of a partner!
What are the specs for the Original Stretch Gym?
The Original Stretch Gym is 42" tall (height of a ballet barre), 22" wide, and 72" long.  It is made of 1.5" OD steel tubing, except for the crossbars (1" OD).  The current model weighs about 55 lbs. and folds down to about 12" high.
Is the Stretch Gym available yet?
The Stretch Gym is now available for sale to anywhere in North America. We can ship internationally, but shipping is expensive, except in multiple units.  If you are interested, contact us via the Online Email Form.
If I live in Southern California, how can I purchase a unit?
We currently accept PayPal, cashier's checks, or personal checks. (We will wait for a personal check to "clear" before shipping.)  We will soon be able to process credit cards too. You can reserve a unit any time by using the online Email form, or by contacting us via the "Contact Us" phone numbers.
How much will the Stretch Gym cost?
Please see the Products section of this website for current pricing.
Do I need to overstretch to use the Stretch Gym?
Not at all!  Entry-level dancers, gymnasts, and others who are starting to learn the splits, the straddle, or backbends will find the Stretch Gym beneficial for accelerating the learning process.  We are also working with physical therapists, chiropractors, and others to determine if and how the Stretch Gym can help 'normal' people with their specific stretching goals.
How does the Stretch Gym help with resistive stretching?
As an example, when the stretcher is doing a front oversplits on the stretch ladder, the crossbar keeps the front leg in stretched position, as the stretcher focuses on pushing down (resisting) with that leg for 10 counts, then relaxes for 10 counts.  This is repeated 3 times, and then the stretcher should perform the same exercise on the other side/leg.  When a partner manually assists with resistive exercises, he/she would hold the leg in the stretched position, a task that the sturdier Stretch Gym can do well!
What are the colored pads supporting the leg or torso?
The colored pads are sections of foam noodles.  Custom padding is under development.
When will you have a smaller/cheaper unit for the home, or a personal one for travel?
The NEW Personal Stretch Gym is now available for purchase.  It is portable and small enough to travel with.  Please see the Products section of this website for more information and current pricing.
